Miri, Sarawak, 25th February 2023 – On behalf of the Borneo Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Summit 2023 organizing committee, we would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for LEAVES®’s generous sponsorship of our upcoming event.
The Borneo SDG Summit 2023, scheduled to take place on 18th and 19th March 2023. The summit will bring together over 600 participants, including policymakers, business leaders, academics, civil society organizations, and youth representatives, to share knowledge and insights on how to build a more sustainable future.
We are delighted to announce that some of the most prominent organizations in the field of sustainable development will be participating in the summit as speakers. These include the United Nations Global Compact, World Wildlife Fund, Miri City Council, Shell, and Pertamina. Their contributions will enrich the dialogue on key sustainability issues and inspire participants to take meaningful action.
As we reflect on LEAVES®’s support, we cannot help but acknowledge your remarkable commitment to corporate social responsibility. We are impressed by your long-term, sustainable initiatives to support others in need, which demonstrate your dedication to giving back to society.
Setting Up a CSR Fund With Company Profits:
One such initiative is the establishment of a CSR fund with company profits. We applaud your commitment to allocating a certain percentage of your annual profits to this fund, which has been used to finance charitable activities such as regular food donations to Hope Place, a Kuching NGO helping B40 families, and the purchase of food hampers for needy households during festive seasons. We also commend your decision to pay salaries to OKU adults from House of Joy for the work they have done.
Raising Funds for Charitable Causes Via Regular Donation-With-Purchase Campaigns:
In addition, your regular donation-with-purchase campaigns, where 50% of the selling price of each product is donated to a deserving cause, is a commendable effort. We are inspired by your willingness to contribute to society, even if it means not making a single cent in profit from sales of such campaigns. To date, Alan has raised nearly RM15,000 to build a kindergarten and will launch another campaign to raise RM35,000 for a local church.
Partnering With Borneo Talk to Empower Indigenous Communities and Single Mothers:
Your recent long-term CSR partnership with Borneo Talk to empower indigenous communities and single mothers is an admirable initiative. The campaign launched during Ramadan 2021, where a percentage of the proceeds from every purchase of Leaves or Borneo Talk products went towards buying buka puasa meals for poor Muslim families in the Green Road, Kampung Kudei, and Kampung Samariang areas of Kuching, was a successful and impactful effort. We appreciate your plans to offer hand-woven handbags made by indigenous communities and single mothers, supplied by Borneo Talk, as free gifts or add-on purchases to loyal customers and bulk buyers. We believe that this effort will provide a sustainable, independent income channel for the artisans who made the products.
Offering Distributorship Opportunities to Pandemic-Hit Individuals:
Finally, your recruitment campaign for new agents via magazine advertisements, which offers distributorship opportunities to pandemic-hit individuals, is a testament to your commitment to building a sustainable recovery that works for everyone. We commend your decision to personally train new agents in sales techniques and give them the right to distribute Leaves products within their communities on a profit-sharing basis. We believe that this initiative will not only help supplement the income of pandemic-hit individuals but also benefit their communities.
We are especially grateful for your contribution to our summit, as it will help us cover the costs of organizing such a large-scale event. Your sponsorship has enabled us to invest in a more immersive exihibition and equipment, high-quality food and beverages, and other essentials that will make the summit a truly exceptional experience for all participants.
In conclusion, we extend our sincere appreciation for your support and your commitment to corporate social responsibility. We believe that your efforts are contributing positively to society, and we hope that other organizations will follow your lead. We look forward to working together with you in our efforts to advance sustainable development goals in Borneo.
